RRAI - Robotic Research

Electrical Engineering Intern

June - August 2022 • Clarksburg, MD

What I liked

I loved working at a small company and making impact across teams. I got to do work full time engineers were doing and built parts that would go into autonomous trucks. They gave me a lot of space to be critical of the higher-level decision making and automate my work. I felt like they respected me despite my limited experience in the world. They also had amazing food events and the work atmosphere was phenomenal. Everyone was a friend!

What I wish was different

I wish I didn't deal with IT issues for my first week. I also automated much of my work and wish the new hires would pay attention more to the tools I was taking advantage of.

Advice

Be bold and take risks. I automated my workflow due to a VP who pushed me to think outside the box and not just do what my supervisors told me to do.

Engineer Trainee

May - August 2020 • Clarksburg, MD

What I liked

Although I did not go to Robotic Research in-person due to Covid, I really enjoyed the mentality and overall environment of the company. Everyone was incredibly friendly and they were quick to get to know you through text if you directly interacted with them. If I needed help, I just had to ask my mentor. If he didn't know the answer, he'd ask someone else to get back to me ASAP.

What I wish was different

I wish I had been able to go in person and that I had gone out of my way to communicate with the other engineers outside of meeting times. Both for the reason of making contacts within the company for the future.

Advice

Be prepared for a professional, yet laidback company. Everyone has a somewhat similar mentality: work hard play hard. Also be prepared to learn how to use Linux if you don't know how to already!
