International Accounting Intern

What I liked

I liked that I was able to move to Washington for the summer and experience life on the west coast. I also liked the whole intern process. After getting hired we were able to interview managers to see what team we wanted to be on. Lastly I liked how they treated us interns we had a lot of work to do but we were also strongly encouraged to network with other managers and other interns through different meeting and programs Boeing hosted during the summer.

What I wish was different

I don’t wish that anything was different O really enjoyed my time working at Boeing and are hoping that I get an offer to come back.

Advice

Boeing is very intern friendly and all of the people there are really intrigued by your background and goals you have. They will also assist you in those goals. This summer I expanded my professional networking tremendously.

What I liked

The Boeing company went out of their way to make sure interns felt comfortable on the workplace. They provided numerous networking and mentorship opportunities to allow us to learn more about the company and see where we might want to end up.

What I wish was different

I wish I would’ve been given harder projects during my time there.

Advice

Never be afraid to ask questions. Going in I was always afraid to and I had to get over that because there was so much I didn’t know about how Boeing works and how projects are developed. I definitely got over that fear and was able to make great connections with my team.

The culture at Boeing LEOS is amazing; it still feels like a small company even though you are working for a massive corporation. Interns get the same benefits as employees, including paid vacation, sick leave, and an additional 9% contribution to a 401k.

Working with some of the brightest and kindest engineers from all over the country. Passionate, knowledgeable, and excited to teach me skills and knowledge

What I wish was different

I wish they weren't in the midst of financial issues, so that they were able to hire me for full time immediately after I finished. Although, it was interesting seeing the company come together through its hardest times.

Advice

The culture at Boeing is pristine. Leadership cares so much about making ethical decisions and about keeping in open communication with direct reports.

Systems Integration and Flight Test Engineer

What I liked

I had access to any major area in the Southern California Area I was able to visit 7 national parks, do something every weekend, and I even experienced a 7.4 magnitude earthquake. I had a wonderful time meeting so many amazing people and expanding my network. My manager even organized a paid trip to San Diego to learn more about the Navy and how Boeing works in hand with our military.

What I wish was different

I wish I had more time to get deeper into my project that I received halfway through the internship, but I was able to make the most of it.

Advice

When you get your projects that you work on during your internship, dive right in and do not hesitate to ask questions. This shows that you are a go getter and that you are willing to put in the work it takes to work at the company you are interning at. Also if you do not have a project right away go ask around to different people and see what might you could help them with and create a mini-project that way.

Procurement finance Analyst

What I liked

What I loved most is a combination of two things, the corporate culture of Boeing and the beautiful scenery in Washington. I worked in the Supply Chain Finance Department. It was a new experience for me because I never worked for a company like Boeing and I never been to Seattle. It was so many outdoor activities to do, the weather was perfect, and every day my manager, Hal Sullivan, would ask me what new adventure I went on every Monday morning. It was really a privilege working for Boeing and being a part of a team that genuinely cared about putting me into a position to excel. Any time I needed help or asked questions they made sure to give me intelligent responses or direct me to someone who could. I took it upon myself to conduct informational interviews with leaders from different departments so I could be more well versed in what I do and to see if I could help solve cross-functional problems. But overall it was a great experience and the only discouraging part came in August when i had to say goodbye to my team. I wrote a letter thanking everyone in my department and the individuals who inspired me along the way during my internship. They offered me a second internship and hopefully I'll be placed there again.

What I wish was different

I wish I would've landed an apartment closer to Seattle where all the festivities were. I stayed in the boondocks about 45 minutes north of Seattle. I didn't like the commute but other than that I wouldn't change anything.

Advice

I would say do your research on housing and the location. Make sure the commute isn't crazy and that you thoroughly do your research and look at reviews when it comes to renting a place for the Summer.

I liked how every employee is willing to mentor and help answer any questions. They are all willing to help propel your career.

What I wish was different

I wish my projects had a bit more impact outside of my direct team. Though it was a good project, I’m not sure how quickly my results could be carried into other areas.

Be willing to adapt to new projects. I was given a project and quickly finished it, so I had to be flexible with where I spent my time.

I loved the close work with the entire finance team, I worked directly with executives within the department.

I wish I got the chance to work with other parts of the company and get a look at eveyrthing, not just finance

I would say show up early, before everyone so you impress everyone. The industry is very easy to win over as it moves slower than we are used to with school deadlines and everything.

-Given lots of responsibility -projects with impact -great culture -opportunities for mentoring and networking -very intern-focused company -full benefits as an intern

What I wish was different

-wish they had been more clear about offers-I got an offer through a rotational program, but the traditional inter-to-full-time conversion process was a mess and many of my classmates have not heard anything still -wish there was a faster pace (but that's not necessarily Boeing's fault, that's just aerospace due to the regulatory nature of it)

Advice

-network like crazy. Boeing expects you to network, take advantage of it. Best way to get offers and figure out what areas you want to work in.

I had the opportunity to accomplish tasks and responsibilities my full time peers were doing at the exact same time. Likewise, I was given the freedom and trust to deliver applicable projects that saved the companies millions each year.

What I wish was different

I wish I had taken the opportunity to explore other umbrellas of Boeing. During my time, I was only exposed to the commercial functions of the Boeing Co.

If you are bored or feel that you aren’t being challenged, y’all to your manager! They want you to have a tremendous experience and walk away only hoping to come back.
