Air Force Meteorologist Internship
The Air Force Civilian Service is looking for a Full-Time Palace Acquire Program (PAQ), Meteorologist Intern (GS-1340-09), to work at the Air Force Life Cycle Management Center on Wright-Patterson AFB in Dayton, OH.
This position is an Air Force intern position, established under the PALACE ACQUIRE (PAQ) program. The purpose of this position is to serve as an advanced trainee, to receive formal and on-the-job training in the weather career field, and to complete developmental assignments and training outlined in the training and development plan. The recognized full performance ("target") grade for this position is GS-12. This is a GS-09 entry-level position with development through the GS-11 (with outplacement to a GS-12 position). In this position, the Intern will apply meteorological and climatological knowledge to provide tailored weather support to Air Force Research Laboratory and other Air Force programs. Develop novel technologies for the USAF in support of national defense including forecasting, climatological data analysis, and post-test weather analysis.
This position has a 2023 salary of $59,123 (includes locality).
This is a GS-09 entry-level position with development to a full performance of GS-12.

Qualification Summary

- Basic Degree Requirements (PHD Preferred): meteorology, atmospheric science, or other natural science major that included:
1. At least 24 semester (36 quarter) hours of credit in meteorology/atmospheric science including a minimum of:
a. Six semester hours of atmospheric dynamics and thermodynamics;*
b. Six semester hours of analysis and prediction of weather systems (synoptic/mesoscale);
c. Three semester hours of physical meteorology;
d. Two semester hours of remote sensing of the atmosphere and/or instrumentation.
2. Six semester hours of physics, with at least one course that includes laboratory sessions.*
3. Three semester hours of ordinary differential equations.*
4. At least nine semester hours of course work appropriate for a physical science major in any combination of three or more of the following: physical hydrology, statistics, chemistry, physical oceanography, physical climatology, radiative transfer aeronomy, advanced thermodynamics, advanced electricity and magnetism, light and optics, and computer science.
- Work may occasionally require travel away from the normal duty station on military or commercial aircraft to support the mission. Work may include travel within and outside the continental United States (CONUS).
- Incumbent may be subject to work an uncommon tour of duty to meet program requirements including nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Skill in using computers/software programs is highly desired.
