Airport 101 – Rotational Program (INTERN)

JOB OVERVIEW

The Airport 101 Summer Internship Program is a dynamic and immersive 8-week rotational internship designed for upper-level college students interested in careers in aviation, public service, or transportation management. Through weekly department rotations, interns will explore the operational, environmental, customer service, and commercial aspects of a modern airport.

 

Participants will gain hands-on experience and mentorship in a variety of key airport departments, including Airport Operations, Marketing, Environmental Programs, Customer Experience, Concessions, and General Aviation. The program combines experiential learning, team collaboration, professional development workshops, and a culminating project presentation.

 

Duties and Responsibilities: 

As an intern in the Airport 101 Program, you will:

  • Rotate weekly through critical airport departments to gain firsthand exposure to daily operations, management strategies, and public service functions
  • Support departmental projects and assist staff with data collection, customer experience initiatives, operational assessments, and administrative tasks
  • Attend guided facility tours and participate in scheduled workshops on airport operations, regulatory compliance, crisis communication, and professional skills
  • Collaborate with a designated mentor for weekly check-ins, feedback, and career guidance
  • Maintain a weekly reflection journal summarizing observations and learning outcomes
  • Develop and deliver a final presentation highlighting your internship experience, cross-department insights, and project contributions
  • Demonstrate a high level of professionalism, punctuality, teamwork, and adherence to airport safety and security protocols

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

To be considered for this internship, applicants must:

  • Be currently enrolled as a college junior or senior pursuing a degree in a relevant field, including:
    • Aviation Management
    • Business Administration
    • Marketing & Communications
    • Environmental Science or Sustainability
    • Hospitality Management
    • Civil or Airport Engineering
    • Public Affairs
    • Economics
    • Tourism and Travel Management

 

  • Safety & Emergency Management
  • Exhibit a genuine interest in aviation, public service, airport operations, or sustainability
  • Possess strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Be able to commit to the full 8-week program schedule
  • Successfully pass all required background checks and obtain airport security clearance

 

 

SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES:

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills are essential for drafting reports, maintaining clear reflective journals, and delivering final presentations
  • Interpersonal skills for effective collaboration with various airport departments and mentors
  • Proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook) is often expected, given the need for data analysis, report generation, and presentation preparation
  • Ability to navigate a fast-paced, rotational environment by managing multiple tasks, meeting deadlines, and prioritizing responsibilities effectively
  • Demonstrated ability to quickly learn and adjust to new roles and tasks

 

LICENSES/ CERTIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

  • Driver’s License
