Commercial Strategy Analyst Intern

May - August 2019 • Atlanta, GA

What I liked

The benefits were great. I received standby travel privileges, allowing me to standby travel almost anywhere in Delta's domestic network for free (and internationally for a discount). Similar privileges were also extended to my parents and one travel companion of my choosing. The culture of the company was fantastic. Employees were very open to coffee chats and offered to support me professionally and personally. I learned a lot from other Delta employees through coffee chats and lunches. I was also invited to many events, including retirement parties, lunch-and-learns, a few marketing conferences, and was even invited to join Marketing employees to meet some Delta Air Lines marketing partners in New York City. Finally, I felt very appreciated by my team and manager. My team was quite supportive, allowing me to take time off when I wasn't feeling well, providing professional mentorship, and encouraging me on how to make the most of my summer. The work-life balance was great. I worked on average of 40 hours, which seemed to be the norm. My project allowed me autonomy over my time as well.

What I wish was different

I wasn't placed in the department of my choosing, but I still learned a lot within the placement I did receive! I was in the Product Development team in Marketing.

Advice

Try to learn as much as you can about your team, your department, and other departments. Even though I was in Marketing, I shadowed someone in Revenue Management and some Industrial Engineers in Airport Customer Service just to learn more about those functions of the company. If you decide to return it may help you decide what you want to do next.

Repair Process Engineering Co-Op

January 2018 - August 2019 • Atlanta, GA

What I liked

I liked the work culture at Delta Air Lines. I also liked that I could be given projects that actually made an impact rather than the typical "Intern Work".

What I wish was different

The Department I was in didn't really fit my interest but I still made the most of it.

Advice

Always be open to new opportunities. I told myself as a freshman that I would never work for an airline but when the opportunity came up I took it without hesitation. I truly think the experience I got and the people I met got me where I am now.

Ramp Agent

April - September 2019 • Romulus, MI

What I liked

I liked that I was able to have a lot of downtime in between flights to do homework for my two summer classes.

What I wish was different

I wish they would have been more organized in assigning pucks (flights) to workers because at times it got very hectic where we’d push a flight out and 2 minutes later have another on the ground with no real break.

Advice

I would say it is an amazing opportunity because while working at Delta Airlines you receive flight benefits to travel anywhere domestic for free and international trips you only have to pay the taxes for the flight.
